Norcross Municipal Court Overview

Norcross is a rapidly growing municipality in Gwinnett County on the outskirts of Atlanta that has nearly doubled in population over the last decade to around 17,000.

The Norcross Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all traffic cases and some misdemeanor cases that occur within the city limits. These cases are heard at Norcross Municipal Court located a short drive away from Buford Highway near downtown Norcross. The population is extremely diverse with 80% of the population identifying as minority – including 46% Hispanic or Latino.

Norcross has a lot of traffic moving through the city limits on Buford Highway and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. These areas can get congested and be hot spots for car accidents.

Common charges heard in Norcross include speeding, car accidents, driver’s license charges, and DUI among other traffic violations. Norcross also has a particularly strong enforcement of railroad track violations after several railroad accidents over the years.

What a Norcross Traffic Lawyer Can Do:

With most Norcross traffic violations, our Norcross traffic lawyer can appear on your behalf and negotiate a reduction to your charges.

This means that you may still pay a traffic ticket fine or do a defensive driving course, but the actual charges will not report on your motor vehicle report or driving history. This keeps points off your license and potentially avoids increasing automobile insurance.

We can usually do most of these cases without you having to appear in Norcross Municipal Court in person. Our Norcross traffic ticket lawyer will appear on your behalf to negotiate the reduction to your traffic citations and then appear at a later court date to close your case. You never need to appear.

On more serious charges, like Norcross DUI cases and reckless driving, it may be prudent for you to appear if we are able to work out a satisfactory resolution to your case.

Advice to Fellow Norcross Traffic Lawyers

Norcross Municipal Court is well-organized with only a handful of quirks when interacting with this traffic court. In general, a traffic attorney can file entries and discovery motions via email. The email address is on the court’s web page and it is always good practice to call to confirm receipt of your filings. The clerk’s office does not answer the phone during court sessions but do at other times of the week. Any request for a reset must be made 10 days prior to the court date or it needs to be granted by the judge.

The City of Norcross Solicitors are reasonable to negotiate with and the judge usually follows negotiated plea recommendations. This traffic court commonly deals with license issues due to the high immigrant population in the area and are fair in those resolutions. The only hardline our Norcross traffic lawyer has ever encountered in this court is that they will never reduce a citation involving stopping on the railroad tracks due to the high number of railroad related accidents over the years.

Norcross Municipal Court is in Gwinnett County so jury demands will bind the case over to Gwinnett State Court. Most Norcross traffic cases rarely need to be boundover – except those railroad citations.
